The client is one of the leading light manufacturing brands with an establishment of more than 110 years. They provide innovative lighting solutions in the three different areas that include Automotive, Optical Semiconductor, and Digital Applications. The client offers a wide range of applications starting from autonomous driving to networked intelligent and from smartphones to virtual reality solutions for cities and buildings.

What were the business challenges?

The client has a wide business expansion across the different nations. They sell various automotive products worldwide. Thus, they have to take care of the different legal requirements of each automotive product for various regions and countries.

Earlier, the client used to display all the legal rules and regulations related to automotive products on the product packaging. This makes the information architecture for the packages immensely complex and cluttered over a period of time. It was difficult for them to accommodate such information on the packaging due to smaller sizes of packaging.

The client wanted to build a solution that helps them save the space on the packaging so they can make the packaging more attractive and informative for its customers. But, at the same time, the solution allows them to inform all the legal rules and regulations of the automotive products to the customers.

What was the approach?

To understand the client’s challenges more precisely, the business analysts conducted a detailed analysis of the client’s existing printing process by coordinating with the client’s team.

They identified that the printed form of legal rules and regulations consume considerable space on the product packing. They realized, by presenting the legal information in another form, the brand can focus more on display product features and value propositions.

They had a detailed discussion with the project managers to suggest the best possible solution. It was decided to develop a QR code database solution to help the client simply their packaging process.

The analysts communicated all the information about the project to the project manager and development team to make sure the client gets the exact solution of their expectations.

Once the project started, the project manager had constant coordination with the client to share updates about the project progress. Moreover, it was decided to build the project following DevOps practices to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the solution.

How Pimcore platform
addressed the challenges?

It was decided to present the required legal information through QR code. The solution helps the brand allow customers to view the product information in the printed form on the packaging and access the legal information about the products digitally by scanning the QR code embossed on the packaging.

Pimcore is utilized to build an extremely flexible QR code solution. The client wanted to use this solution with other applications too, so it was decided to design and develop the QR code database using the Pimcore. The Pimcore based solution allows clients to manage all the relevant information in a centralized repository.

The Pimcore based database allows the client to

  • Collect all information for the relevant products and legal requirements of the individual market, regardless of text and pictures
  • Connect the text database, that contains all legal and marketing text in all the different languages, with the client’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Product Information Management (PIM) solution through an interface
  • Arrange the information according to the product family where each product has its own QR code that is printed on the product packaging
  • Enrich all the relevant digital assets such as images, documents, etc. through the supplementary DAM interface

DXP/CMS

When customers scan the QR code, printed on the product packaging, using their tablets or smartphones, they redirected to a website that is developed using Pimcore.

On the website, they can choose a country to get instant access to the information about the products in their regional languages. Moreover, the marketing-related information and legal notices are also available in customers’ native languages.

PIM

The integration of the website with PIM allows the clients to manage the automotive product images and information effortlessly. They can manage thousands of products with hundreds of attributes effectively and accurately by implementing the PIM framework of Pimcore.

Extensibility & scalability

For cross-media product communication, the client has created a sustainable infrastructure using the QR code database solution. As the solution is developed using Pimcore, it allows the client to add any extensions as per the changing needs. The solution is scalable as per the requirements of the other applications.

DAM integration

The existing DAM system of the client is connected to the database. Thus, the client can store and manage the 360-degree and computer-generated (CGI) 3D views of the image and display them on their website or eCommerce stores. Moreover, Pimcore allows the client to manage appropriate assembly and operating instructions that can be downloaded for more complex products.

Web2Print

Pimcore allows clients to collect and manage all the data such as product information, legal requirements, images, marketing collateral texts, etc. in a single database. Along with data management, it also enables the client with web2print facilities that work as a single source of publishing.

The information can be exported and filtered directly to InDesign using an InDesign plug-in. The client can produce the product flyers, sales brochures, entire product catalog, prefabricated temples, and datasheet quickly and easily, and, most importantly, cost-effectively.
