Client Overview
The client is a leading US-based supermarket chain operating 40 grocery stores across Southern California. In addition to groceries, fresh produce, meat, and bakery products, the company provides financial services, including check cashing, money orders, utility bill payments, microloans, insurance, mobile top-ups, and wire transfers.
With approximately 400,000 store visits and 700,000 transactions weekly, the organization needed an efficient system to manage customer information and streamline financial service transactions across its store network.
Problem Statement
The client relied on an existing web-based system to manage customer profiles, products, and financial services. However, the system lacked the flexibility, automation, and scalability required to support daily operations across multiple stores.
Customers visiting different locations were frequently registered multiple times, resulting in duplicate profiles and fragmented customer information. Additionally, the manual check-cashing process took 3–4 days to complete, delaying bank deposits, revenue reconciliation, and financial operations.
The client needed a centralized customer data management solution integrated with a tablet application to establish unique customer identities, digitize financial transactions, and improve operational efficiency across its stores.
Key Challenges
Duplicate Customer Records
Customers visiting different stores were registered multiple times, creating duplicate profiles and making it difficult to maintain a unified customer identity.
Fragmented Customer Information
The existing system captured limited customer details, preventing store associates and managers from accessing a complete view of customer profiles and transaction histories.
Lengthy Check-Cashing Process
Manual check processing required 3–4 days for deposits to be credited, creating operational inefficiencies and slowing financial transactions.
Delayed Revenue Reconciliation
Long check-processing cycles affected the organization's ability to reconcile revenue efficiently and maintain timely visibility into financial transactions.
Limited Customer Identification
Without reliable customer verification, associates struggled to identify returning customers and accurately track transactions across multiple store locations.
Lack of Mobile Accessibility
The existing web-based system lacked the flexibility required for store associates and managers to efficiently manage customer registrations and financial transactions using mobile devices.
Solution Implemented
Credencys developed an Android-based tablet application integrated with Pimcore’s Customer Data Platform (CDP) and Digital Asset Management (DAM) to centralize customer information, eliminate duplicate registrations, and digitize check-cashing operations.

Centralized Customer Data Management : Implemented Pimcore's Customer Data Platform to consolidate customer information into a unified database, providing store associates and managers with a complete view of customer profiles across locations.
Unified Customer Registration : Redesigned the registration process to create a unique identity for each customer, preventing duplicate profiles and maintaining consistent customer information across the supermarket chain.
Facial Recognition Integration : Integrated Kairos facial recognition technology to identify returning customers, validate existing profiles, and improve the accuracy of customer identification during registration.
Digital Check-Cashing Workflow : Digitized the check-cashing process, allowing associates to scan checks and electronically submit them to banks, reducing processing time from 3–4 days to approximately 1 day.
Web & Tablet Application Integration: Connected the existing web-based system with the tablet application, enabling store associates and managers to access centralized customer records and manage transactions more efficiently.
OFAC Compliance Screening : Integrated Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) screening to check customer records against applicable sanctions lists during registration and re-registration.
Real-Time SMS Notifications : Integrated Twilio SMS APIs to send real-time messages for phone verification, terms and conditions acknowledgment, and digital transaction receipts.
Centralized Digital Asset Management : Implemented Pimcore DAM to centrally store and manage customer photographs, government-issued identification documents, scanned checks, and other transaction-related digital assets.
